  1. There is something really fascinating about the way that the background image slowly reveals itself as one looks longer and deeper at the painting. At first it seems like an abstract pattern of shapes, and then the death masks are show up, slowly showing that they are connected to bodies. Beautiful on its surface, but rewarding to close, active seeing.
